NEURO & SPINE SURGEON,
SPARSH HOSPITAL, YELAHANKA BRANCH

MS(Gen Surgery), MRCS Ed(UK), Mch Neurosurgery(KEM, Mumbai), FINR(Switzerland), FMINS(Germany), FSb&VNS(Japan).

Dr Avinash.KM is a senior consultant, Neurosurgery and Interventional Neurosurgery(Endovascular neurosurgery) at SPARSH HOSPITAL, YELAHANKA Bangalore. Dr Avinash has completed his MBBS and MS in General Surgery from JJM Medical college, Davangere and done his MCh in Neurosurgery from prestigious King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEM Hospital)& Seth GS medical College , Mumbai, which is a mecca of surgical training in INDIA. Department of Neurosurgery at KEM hospital in one of the pioneering institutes in India and is the only department in India to have WFNS( World Federation of Neurological Surgery) accredited training for SKULL BASE SURGERY. Having completed his training in general Microneurosurgery and Skull base surgery, Dr Avinash went on to do subsuperspeciality training in Interventional Neurosurgery(Endovascular Neurosurgery) at University Hospital Zurich, Switzerland for a period of one year. He also completed training in Endoscopic and Minimally Invasive Neuro and Spine surgery at University Hospital Stuttgart Germany. He visited world renowned centre for vascular neurosurgery at Sapporo, Japan for advanced training in vascular neurosurgery and brain bypass surgeries. He also completed Fellowship Training in Neuro-endoscopy at India. He is been associated with Columbia Asia hospitals from last 6 years and has done some of the most complex brain and spine surgeries. Dr. Avinash.KM is one of very few neurosurgeon in the world, who performs both open Microvascular and Endovascular cerebrovascular surgery.   This dual training allows Dr. Avinash plenty of flexibility in choosing the right course for his patients. This unique skill set allows unbiased treatment options ranging from carotid stenting versus carotid endarterectomy, aneurysm coiling versus clipping, and AVM embolization versus resection. Dr. Avinash has a keen interest in treating ischemic cerebrovascular disease including carotid revascularization, acute stroke interventions, and EC-IC bypass. He believes a combination of open and endovascular means, working synergistically, holds the key to improving outcomes. His dual training in minimally invasive endovascular neurosurgery and traditional open cerebrovascular neurosurgery gives him the unique ability to treat brain and spine blood vessels conditions from either inside or outside the vessel, depending on the best treatment for each individual patient. Dr Avinash is also involved in surgeries for complex brain tumours. He is trained adequately in Complex Skullbase surgeries, Neuronavigation assisted precise brain surgeries, minimally invasive surgeries and endoscopic surgeries for brain tumours. He has special training is treating recurrant brain tumours. He is involved in many national and international research activities, attends conferences and a invited guest faculty nationally and internationally. He is also involved in teaching activities regularly and has trained many Neurosurgerons in endovascular and minimally invasive neurosurgery field.
